Street Talk Log Book and Hazard Training Guide

Street Talk

The Street Talk defensive driving course teaches you driving safety skills. It’s a fun and interactive programme that aims to help you to better understand and cope with risks when you’re driving and improve your driving. Most important of all be a safer driver.

This course helps you develop:

  • advanced driving skills
  • better control
  • hazard identification
  • the ability to make the right decisions
  • the ability to manage risk
  • prepares you for the restricted and full licence tests.

You will be provided with a logbook.

Note: Learner Licence holders will need access to a supervisor i.e parent to complete the practical assignment in this course. We also strongly recommend a minimum 40 driving hours/and or held this licence for at least 4 months before starting the course.

Why you should attend a defensive driving course

Whether you’re on your learner or restricted licence, you’ll still reduce the time to your full licence by 6 months.

Yes, you can drive yourself on a restricted licence &emdash; but only at certain times or with an experienced driver. You can’t take your family, or your friends, anywhere. You can’t be on the road between 10pm and 5am without risking fines, demerit points or being uninsured if something happens.

It’s for your own safety, but wouldn’t it be great to reduce months off this time? The answer is right here plus this course is New Zealand Transport Authority approved.

We’re based locally in the Canterbury area, covering Kaikoura to Ashburton

Comments about the course

“Just wanted to say a big thank you to you both for the defensive driving course. It was hugely valuable to me. I sat my full license today and the examiner said that I didn’t make a single mistake. The practical session in particular really helped me feel ready for the test.
Thanks for all your hard work!
Roseanna (August 2016)

“Palenque and I just want to say Thank you very much to Frank for his excellent teaching.

Of course, Palenque was over the moon to pass, and I firmly believe it is Frank’s calming influence which makes all the difference.”
Derek Doddington - Parent

“I just wanted to say thank you for all your help. I passed my full licence recently and I couldn’t have done it without you guys”
Alice Scott 2016

“Just wanted to let you know I passed my full licence today :) thanks so much to you and Frank, I felt so much more confident about driving after completing your course. The man taking the test was very impressed that I remembered my head checks and did the hazard detection so well!
Once again, cheers.
Chloe (June 2014)

“I just want to let you know that I am SO very impressed with all that Sam is learning!.
She talks about what she has learned in class....and her awareness and attitude toward the responsibilities of driving have increased ten-fold!
I am so happy... and feel much better, as her mother, in her competence and awareness.” Christina Garbarini (mother of Samantha)

“I sat your defensive driving course in September with three others from Shirley Boy’s High. Just letting you know I passed my full driver licence test yesterday thanks all to you guys! They told me there most fail on the hazard detection because they point out random things and don’t talk about the obvious ones like cars behind, in front, as well as coming by and passing you. I couldn’t have passed my licence without your course So keep up the good work and thanks heaps.” Joel Robinson

“Hey Frank, cheers a lot for your lessons, I wouldn’t have passed otherwise. I was a bit of a nervous wreck but scraped my way along. The corner was a part of it and about 90% of the road you took me around. Thanks so much” Student from St Bedes
